Holding a professional career while still maintaining a healthy family life is a hard task many fail to achieve. But for Gregg, it was as simple as it seemed. For over 40 long years, Gregg Popovich sustained his married relationship with his wife, Erin.

Gregg and Erin first met each other in their college years when they were attending the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. And from there, they began a bond that and eventually got married in 1976.

In the quest of their romantic journey, they got blessed with two children, son Micky Popovich, and daughter Jill Popovich. Everything was pretty smooth amongst the pair, and they even had surpassed more than four decades of intimacy. But, God had a tragic plan; his wife, Erin sadly passed away in 2018.

Erin, who was born in 1951, was 67 years old when she passed away. And unlike Gregg, she was very private about her life. She declined any requests for interviews and always fancied a life away from the limelight. It was reported that the cause of her death was likely a respiratory issue.

After the death of his spouse, Gregg was depressed by the loss of his beloved lady, which is why he was absent for Game 3 of the Spurs-Warriors N.B.A.

Since his childhood days, Gregg has always had an interest in Football and Basketball. After he relocated to Merrillville with his parents, he joined Merrillville High School, where he played Basketball and kept on playing well into his days in the Air Force Academy. His love for the game encouraged him to pursue a career in the CIA. Initially, he played for the Armed Forces Team, which he also captained.

Later, in 1973, Gregg began his coaching career when he became the team’s assistant coach and kept on coaching college teams. Ultimately, he joined the NBA in 1988 as the assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs. Gregg briefly left Spurs to join The Golden State Warriors but returned to Spurs in 1994. After his return, he served as the general manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations. Following that, in 1996, Gregg took up the role of head coach of the team.

Since then, the East Chicago-native has gone on to achieve wonders with the team. He’s won the NBA championships five times and has also been awarded the NBA coach of the year three times.

Along with contributing to the Spurs, Gregg has also provided his contribution to the national team. He’s led the USA basketball team in several World Championships. From the 2002 FIBA World Championship to the 2016 Summer Olympics, Popovich’s skills had been put to great use.
