Phil Simms was born on 3 November 1954 in Springfield, KY, as Philip Martin Simms. He is the son of William Simms and Barbara Simms.

Phil graduated from Morehead State University in 1979, the same year he got selected in the New York Giants.

New York Giants had selected Phil as the first quarterback in 1979. He served the team incredibly for the whole 14-year of his career and led the team to a 39-20 victory in Super Bowl XXI, giving New York Giants their first Super Bowl title. His outstanding performances further led him to get selected for the 1985 and 1993 Pro Bowls. What more? He was named the Bowl MVP  in 1985 and All-Pro in 1986. 

Despite his budding sports career, Phil got retired as a player in 1993 and started broadcasting in 1995. He joined NBC, ESPN, and CBS as a game analyst.
