At the age of 25, Bruce was hired Brascan in 1990, which was later renamed to 'Brookfield Asset Management.". Later, Bruce became a Cheif Executive Officer & Senior Managing partner for 'Brookfield Asset Management' in 2012.

Bruce was previously married in 1993. But the relationship didn’t work out, and they parted their ways after two years in 1995. He didn’t have any children from the marriage.

His wife Lonti is a vice-president museum’s board of the New Museum in New York, she has also made donations for the museum’s expansion and has been a longtime supporter of the museum.

Moreover, his art-adviser wife also launched two artist residency programs in 2018, one in 'Brooklyn’s Bushwick' and the second in the 'Italian village of Chiusure.'

Bruce comes from a well-established family background. His father was an executive at a mutual fund company in Manitoba for 43 years. 

Bruce attended the University of Manitoba to be an accountant. He graduated from the university in 1985—passed his accounting exam, scoring the second-highest in the province.
