Sofia debuted as a professional tennis player by playing for ITF Circuit in the US in 2013. 

In 2015, she played for Women’s Team Association (WTA), but she lost in the first round during the main draw. In the same year, Sofia received a wild card entry in US Open women's singles tournament. Despite being a wild card player, she made it to the finals.

Next year, she again competed for ITF Circuit and won two titles.

Similarly, in 2017, she played tennis at the US Open. There, she competed against Maria Sharapova in the third round, but she lost it. So, Sofia didn’t move forward at the 2017’s US Open.

However, the tennis star banged it in 2018’s US Open as she reached the third round despite losing consecutively. She also played for Women’s Team Association (WTA) at the Auckland Open and reached the quarterfinal. Also, she played in a team in the United States' Fed Cup and won by defeating the Czech Republic.

Likewise, Sofia tasted another successful season in 2019. She played both WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai and WTA Finals and won her first WTA doubles title at the Auckland Open and Beijing. She also earned her first WTA singles three times at the Hobart International, Mallorca Open, and Guangzhou International Women’s Open.

For the first time, Sofia reached Grand Slam at the Australian Open by defeating Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur with the stats of 6-4 and 6-4 on 27 January 2020.

Finally, Sofia lifted the Grand Slam title at the Australian Open by defeating Spaniard Garbine Muguruza with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 score on 1st February 2020.
