She and her spouse sold her Las Vegas-based home for $720,000 in February 2018. The home was built in 1971 and Gladys and her husband bought it in 1997 for $ 695,000. The house spread in a half-acre of land that covers the area of 6,500 square feet consisting of six bedrooms and four baths, recording studio, sunken living room, cathedral wood ceilings, and many other facilities. 

At a very early age, she discovered her skills in singing and was able to captivate people with her mesmerizing voice. At the age of seven, Knight won Ted Mack's Original Amateur Hour TV show contest which helped her to achieve minor success. In the meanwhile, she formed a musical group called the Pips with her sister Brenda, brother Merald, and cousins Elenor Guest and William which had begun to tour by the end of the decade.  

She also won the title of The Masked Singer. She performed under the mask of a bee in the show. During the finale, Gladys sang Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me.” 

Gladys's Married Life; Husband, Divorce And Children!

Moving onto her personal life, she has been married four times and has three children altogether. In the year 1960, the knight was first married to James Newman, who was her high school boyfriend. In the year 1962, she gave birth to the son, James "Jimmy" Newman. A daughter Kenya was born in 1963. Her relationship with her high school sweetheart was getting stronger day by day.

But unfortunately, in 1973, she divorced her husband, James. James was a musician, who reportedly became an addict to drugs and left his family. He died after a few years of his divorce with Gladys. 

Gladys's son, Jimmy, from her relationship with late hubby James, managed her career under his own company Newman Management Inc but unfortunately, he had a tragic death in 1997 because of heart failure. He was found dead during his sleep at his home in Las Vegas.

A year after she spilled with James, she married Barry Hankerson, a Background Records founder, and producer by profession. With her ex-husband Hankerson, she has a son named Shanga Hankerson. Knight had a divorce with Barry Hankerson in 1981.

In the year 1995, she was again married to motivational speaker Les Brown and was separated in 1997; after two years of marriage. In the year G2001, Gladys Knight married William McDowell with whom she has sixteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
