A native of Yate, Gloucestershire, England, J. K. Rowling was born as Joanne Rowling on 31 July 1965. Her height is 1.65 m and holds British nationality. The novelist wanted to become a writer from an early age and wrote a story Rabbit at the age of six.

Her father Peter James Rowling was a Rolls-Royce aircraft engineer and her mother Anne Rowling was a science technician. J.K. had family difficulties during her childhood, as her mother, Anne got diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and had a sad demise. In her family, Rowling has a sister named Dianne with whom she moved to the nearby village Winterbourne at the age four.

For her education, Rowling attended St Michael's Primary School and studied A-level courses in high school. At the age of 36, she took an entrance examination at the college of Oxford University but got rejected. Later, she obtained a Bachelor's Degree in French and Classics from the University of Exeter.

Creator of Harry Potter, J.K. has been married twice. She was in Portugal as an English teacher when she had a romantic encounter with her first husband, Jorge Arantes. She and the Portuguese TV journalist tied a knot on 16 October 1992 in Portugal.

Together, they had one child named Jessica Isabel Rowling Arantes- named after Jessica Mitford. Their daughter was born in Portugal on 27 July 1993. Before the birth of Jessica, J.K. suffered a miscarriage back in 1992.
