Johanna got married in 1995 with Gary Sweet, who is an established actor. He is a well-known star in his own right, having appeared in classic Australian dramas such as Police Rescue, Stingers, and House Husbands. Their marriage only lasted for four years from 1995 to 1999, but the pair shared two children, Jesse James, and Joe Sweet.

She then got married to building foreman Todd Huggins. The pair tied the knot in a private ceremony, which was a very low-key wedding gathering of close family and friends in Sydney in 2006. The couple happily resides in Sydney.

While the former swimmer's love life is still going strong, so is her career. Johanna became a grandmother at a very young age. Her youngest son Joe and his wife Katie welcomed a baby boy named Jax. She thinks it's incredible to be young grandparents and be young enough to do things with them and to be able to help them out. Despite being busy, she is still managing to juggle her grandmother duties with a very hectic work schedule.
